The city and municipality of Nakło nad Notecią have direct access to communication routes which include the domestic route no. 10, railway node (Szczecin – Piła – Bydgoszcz – Warsaw) and a water route (Noteć river and the Bydgoszcz Canal). Noteć is a part of an international waterway E-70 Berlin - Kaliningrad. Nakło municipality is situated in the west region of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship at a distance of 25 kilometers (in a straight line) from the capital of the voivodeship – Bydgoszcz.

Long distance bus transportation is at high level. National connections (Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, Piła, Białystok, Poznań, Toruń, Warsaw, Kołobrzeg, Płock, Włocławek) and international ones (North Geremany cities such as Bremen, Hamburg, Kiel) are available.

Two provincial roads pass through Nakło:

  • provincial road no. 241 Rogoźno - Tuchola, which enables connection with Poznań. The beginning of the connection is at the crossroads with the national road no. 11, which goes from Poznań towards Piła;
  • provincial road no. 246, which begins in a Podnakiel village Paterek and connects Nakło with the national road (expressway in the future) no. 5, which is also the international road E261.

They enable communication among the most important cities of the region, connecting Nakło with Mrocza, Kcynia or Szubin. Two railway lines run through the city:

  • line no. 18, which connects Kutno with Piła Główna and on which passenger and freight traffic takes place. Thereby Nakło is connected with the most important Polish cities, such as Szczecin and Warsaw (two arrivals and two departures a day), Piła Główna – Bygdoszcz Główna (over a dozen trains a day);
  • line no. 281 Oleśnica - Chojnice, partially off traffic; its advantage is a connection with the Rail Rolling Stock Repair Workshop in Paterek, which employs surrounding inhabitants.

In the surrounding areas of Nakło nad Notecią there are a few significant communicational points. One of them is Bydgoszcz I. J. Paderewski Airport. It provides air transport on domestic routes (Cracow, Łódź, Poznań, Warsaw, Zielona Góra) and international (Berlin, Birmingham, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Liverpool, London, Vienna).
